Every January I make a vision board, sometimes alone and sometimes with friends. It has become a sacred time that I cherish where I allow myself to be open to the ideas that all my dreams are possible. To prepare, I collect random magazines throughout the year in a box in the garage. It is like a sacred part of bringing in the new year. I usually do it alone but sometimes I have been know to share the time with my best friends. I am really looking forward to writing this post and sharing how to make a vision board with you.

Materials and Supplies Needed

How to Make a Vision Board Step By Step

STEP ONE

Start by cutting out and collecting photos, words and sayings from magazines that speak to your heart. Anything and all the things work for this. No wish or dream or desire is too big. While you are creating a board of possibility, keep in mind that is is meant to be fluid and dreamy, not a checklist or a “to do” board. At this step, tearing out pages and collecting is really the goal. There will be time to trim and fit pieces together later.

PRO TIP: If doing this activity with a group of people, be sure to have a VARIETY of magazine types. While I am all about gardening, home decor, travel and making things – my friends are in to cooking, dogs and parenting!

STEP TWO

Trim your cut out pieces and get them ready to adhere to your board. The board can be any size at all.

STEP THREE

Add a large heart to your board with a marker. Fill it with I AM statements that speak to your strengths. I am smart, creative, powerful and brave. Beth over at Creatively Beth shared a great example of this step.

STEP FOUR

Use your adhesives to attach your cut-outs to the board. If you have more pieces cut out than you have space to fit, create some fold-over options with card stock to make more space. Another option is to add an envelope and fill it up. It is even okay to fill up the back. There are NO RULES. When you are learning how to make a vision board for the first time, keep it simple. Feeling successful is really important.

Once you think you are totally complete, look your vision board for manifestation over in entirety and see if there is anything you want to add. It is okay to layer and even put things on the back.

Be sure to sign your board somewhere. I usually write a note to myself and sign it on the back. Display the board somewhere that it is a constant reminder of things that you want to see, feel and have in your space. If you are learning how to make a vision board and doing it with kids, a glue stick is a great option.

Vision Boards with Girl Scouts

I have done vision boards and journals with my Girl Scout troop several times in different ways. We once made them while we were camping, using the big lodge floor for a work surface. My biggest lesson this go round was that we needed more time. They really got in to the process. They too their boards home to finish. You can read about crafting while camping here.
